See below a few examples of my work.
I painted this engine in 2022, as the Welsh Highland Railway's Beyer Garratt locomotives were being requested frequently by people viewing my work. The engine itself was built in 1958 by Beyer Peacock of Manchester, and worked in South Africa before being brought to Wales in 1997. The engine is currently in storage awaiting overhaul.

I painted Prince in 2022, as the engine is a personal favourite! Built by George England and Co for the Ffestiniog railway in 1863, Prince has worked on the railway ever since, and was integral to the preservation movement in the 1950s. Prince is currently being overhauled at Boston Lodge.

I painted Lyn in 2022, as an integral part of the fantastic Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. The original "Lyn" was built in 1898 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, USA (works number 15,965!). Sadly, the original "Lyn" was scrapped in 1935, however, thanks to the popularity of the railway, a replica was built in 2017, and serves as the main engine on the line at Woody Bay today.

This engine was painted as a commission during 2023, another example of the very popular Garratt locomotives of the Welsh Highland Railway. Built in 1951 by Beyer Peacock of Manchester, 130 worked in South Africa until it was returned to the UK, arriving at the Welsh Highland Railway in 2015. The locomotive is currently in service (indeed, when I last volunteered as a steward on the WHR, this was the engine hauling my train!).

This is the earliest painting that is available on this website! I painted Mountaineer (another personal favourite) in 2021, and gave the original painting to the Friends of Tan-y-Bwlch station to help raise funds for the railway. "Mountaineer" was very much part of my childhood holidaying in North Wales, and I am keen to see the engine back in service! Sadly, I did not have this painting professionally reproduced, so I am only able to provide greetings cards. I will donate 50% of sales of these cards to the restoration project.

I created this painting in 2023, having moved to Blaenafon, where the locomotive is currently based. I am a regular volunteer at the Blaenafon Heritage Railway, and am fortunate enough to be able to watch this locomotive hauling trains from my back room! The locomotive was built for the National Coal Board in 1952, and served its working life at Gawber Colliery near Barnsley. It is currently operating on the fantastic Blaenavon Heritage Railway!

I painted this iconic class 50 as a present for my brother. 50018 "Resolution" was the last of the class that he needed to "cop". We finally saw it in Network SouthEast livery at Teignmouth in the late 1980s (to much excitement!). Sadly, 50018 was scrapped in 1993, so this painting is based upon
50033 "Glorious", which is currently operational on the Severn Valley Railway.

As the last surviving original Welsh highland Railway locomotive, "Russell" is an undeniably iconic locomotive! Built by the Hunslet Locomotive Company of Leeds ibn 1922, "Russell" led an interesting working life before eventually coming to reside at the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. I painted
"Russell" in 2023, and it is definitely one of my favourite paintings, especially the brasswork on the steam dome!

"Lyd" was built by the Ffestiniog Railway at Boston Lodge in 2010, and continues to serve on the railway as a popular member of the fleet. "Lyd" is based on one of the iconic Manning Wardle locomotives that worked on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway until its closure in 1935. I painted "Lyd" in 2022, and it is the first painting that I had professionally scanned and reproduced!

I painted "6106" as a commission in 2023. The locomotive is currently based at Didcot Railway Centre and is awaiting restoration. "6106" was built at Swindon in 1931, and served most of its working life hauling commuter trains into London, before being rescued for preservation in 1966. "6106" has
the distinction of being the very first standard gauge loco that I painted!

Built by Fletcher Jennings & Co of Lowca, Cumberland, in 1866, "Dolgoch" served her entire life on the Talyllyn Railway, and became iconic during the early restoration period. "Dolgoch" was immortalised by the Rev W Awdry, appearing in the railway series as "Rheneas"! I painted "Dolgoch" in 2024, and found her to be challenging locomotive, given her comparatively small size and comparatively tall chimney!

The Hunslet Locomotive Company of Leeds built "Linda" for the Penrhyn Quarry Railway of North Wales in 1893. Along with her sister, "Blanche", "Linda" was acquired by the Ffestiniog Railway in 1963. A popular and iconic member of the fleet, "Linda" returned to service on the Ffestiniog Railway in 2024 and now regularly hauls "The Quarryman". I painted Linda in 2023, and will always remember the difficulty of painting cylinder heads that are leaning backwards from vertical!

"Blanche" was built by Hunslet of Leeds in 1893 for the Penrhyn Quarry Railway of North Wales. Along with her sister, "Linda", "Blanche" was acquired by the Ffestiniog Railway in 1963, and quickly proved her value as a mainline locomotive! "Blanche" was painted in 2022, and is my father's
favourite engine at the railway, as he was fortunate enough to enjoy a footplate ride on "Blanche" in 2023!

I painted this locomotive in 2023, at the request of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. To the best of my knowledge no other paintings of this engine exist! "Axe" was built in 1915 by Kerr Stuart of Stoke-on-Trent for use by the French Military during the First World War. "Axe" is currently operating on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay, North Devon.
